Capture still images from DVD movies while watching

Some people try to capture the nice images from a DVD movie by pressing the “print screen” key on the keyboard when watching it in Windows Media Player or other player, but only get a black blank instead of the actual scene. It is said that it is displayed on a different layer called overlay when the movie plays. When you press the print screen key, you just take the normal layer where the movie is not displayed, so the result is a black blank.

Then, here comes the question: how to capture still images from DVD movies playing in a DVD player?
There are three easy ways to capture still images from DVD movies:
1. Use SnagIt, you can capture the video region or the whole playing window and then edit it using “crop” tool.
2. Uncheck overlay. If you are a Windows Media Player user, this can be set in its tool menu. Uncheck use overlay in “DVD video” and restart the player, then you can use the “print screen” key to capture images and paste in an image editor.
3. Get a media player such as BlazeVideo HDTV Player. It can capture images from DVD movies or live TV show, preview image and save them on hard drive or portable devices. In the float panel, there is a button to capture image, just click the button, you can capture the favorite movies scene as BMP still image, and the captured images will be saved in “My Pictures”. It enables you to preview captured images in Paint application; delete the unsatisfied one; save the selected images or all the images and rename the selected images.

I found there exists another method but I think maybe it is a little complicated for computer illiterate like me. But you can have a try. That is turning off hardware acceleration.
